Battery, operatingBattery, registered as plannedBattery, planned, held apartBattery, shut downPumped storage
1,367 of 1,372 units drawn at the coordinates their operators registered. Pumped storage is grey and most of the operating megawatts; 30 grey units with 3,633 MW are in Austria and Luxembourg and feed the German grid, which is why the register lists them. The batteries are yellow when operating, blue when registered as planned, and pale blue when registered as planned and held apart.

Germany · Marktstammdatenregister · export of 15 October 2026

4,337 MW of batteries are registered as operating in Germany, and 9,326 MW more are registered as planned. A further 3,304 MW registered as planned is held apart as doubtful.

The Marktstammdatenregister is the Bundesnetzagentur’s register of every power unit in Germany, filled in by operators and checked by grid operators. This is every storage unit of a megawatt or more in it: 1,264 batteries, 542 of them operating and 707 registered as planned, and 108 pumped storage units, drawn where the register places them. The planned figure counts 655 of the planned batteries; the other 52 are held apart, for the reasons in the tables below. A planned unit is one its operator chose to register early; the queue of connection requests is published only as totals by the regulator. The Germany page reads the same register as tables.

Every unit in the register, a megawatt and up

Largest first. Click a row to centre the map on the unit. Power is net nominal power; capacity is the installation’s usable capacity where the register has it. The date is commissioning for an operating unit and the operator’s planned date for a planned one. A planned unit held apart from the planned figure says so; click it on the map for the reason.

Held apart from the planned figure, 3,304 MW in 52 units

These units are registered as planned and stay on the map, in the table and in the download, drawn in pale blue. They are left out of the planned figure because each looks doubtful: 3,000 MW registered but not announced by the owner, 7.5 MW that looks like a duplicate entry, 197 MW in a series registered together and never updated after its planned date passed and 100 MW whose planned date passed more than a year ago. A unit is overdue when its planned date passed more than a year before the register export of 15 October 2026.

Decided by hand, 25 units, with the evidence

Each of these was checked by hand against the register and the owners’ own announcements on 11 October 2026, and the series again on 16 October 2026. A capacity entered in MWh is shown corrected and an impossible date is left blank; the register’s own values stay in the download.

Checks on the register’s entries, 25 flagged

The register is filled in by operators and checked by grid operators, and these are the entries that look odd when read mechanically. Nothing is dropped: a unit flagged here stays in every count above, and this table says why a reader should treat it with care. The check is where the work on this register starts.

Source: Marktstammdatenregister, Bundesnetzagentur, full export of 15 October 2026, read by Vitreous for storage units with a net nominal power of 1,000 kW or more; Datenlizenz Deutschland, Namensnennung 2.0. Status, power, capacity, dates and coordinates are as registered, except where a note says a value is shown corrected or left blank; the download keeps the register’s own values beside ours. A natural person among the operators is not named, as the register itself does not name one for small units. The connection queue is not in the register; its totals are the regulator’s own.
