BESS Merseburg and Speicher Braunsbedra

12 MW, 37 MWh (3.2 hours) in Merseburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, registered as operating since 15 September 2023. Everything on this page is read from Germany’s register of power units and the other published records named beside each fact.

What it is

The register holds this battery as two units.

UnitRegister numberMWMWhCommissionedBatteryGrid operator check
BESS MerseburgSEE9176891074596.72115 September 2023Lithiumunder check
Speicher BraunsbedraSEE9674030864165161 August 2024Lithiumunder check

Power is the net power the operator registered, the most the unit may feed into the grid. Energy is the usable capacity of the unit’s installation. A grid operator check marked “checked” means the grid company has confirmed the entry; “under check” means it has not yet. On the large sites we compared, the register’s commissioning date often came months before the owner’s announced start, which suggests it records first energisation.

Who runs it and who owns it

Owner. Capital Dynamics Clean Energy funds 80 % (CE EU Lux Holdco S.à r.l.), Münch Energie 20 % (Münch Kraftwerke II GmbH & Co. KG), through CE EU Lux Holdco S.à r.l., Luxemburg / Luxemburg (Registre de commerce et des sociétés B289807), liability amount 176,000 euros; Münch Kraftwerke II GmbH & Co. KG, Rugendorf (Amtsgericht Bayreuth HRA 4755), liability amount 44,000 euros. Confirmed in the commercial register. Evidence: Current printout (AD) of Amtsgericht Bayreuth HRA 4513, retrieved 11 October 2026; last entry 8 August 2025. Capital Dynamics bought 80 %: register entry of 8 August 2025, announced 2 September 2025 Checked 11 October 2026. Every battery of this family.

The register names the operator, the company that runs the unit. The owner behind it comes from the commercial register (Handelsregister) or the owner’s own publication, as marked. The register number is the one the operator typed in; on 11 October 2026 we found it wrong or missing for 26 of the companies we looked up.

Who trades it and what it is built from

Also publishedCapital Dynamics bought an 80% stake from Münch Energie in one co-located solar (34 MWp) plus 11.7 MW battery project in Saxony-Anhalt, announced 2025-09-02. Project and town not named. This does not support the earlier lead that Capital Dynamics holds 80% of Münch visiontec. Capital Dynamics press release, 2 September 2025
Also publishedInferred: the register units BESS Merseburg (6.7 MW) and Speicher Braunsbedra (5.0 MW) add to 11.7 MW, the battery size in the Capital Dynamics deal; they may be that project, but no source names them our inference Capital Dynamics press release, 2 September 2025

From published documents: the owners’, builders’ and optimisers’ own announcements and the trade press, each linked. Where the owner’s power or energy differs from the register’s, both are shown and every figure on this site uses the register’s.

The innovation tenders pay a market premium to solar or wind paired with storage. The award lists are the Bundesnetzagentur’s. A bidder that differs from today’s operator dates a change of hands, or a spelling difference.

What this page cannot show

Germany publishes no battery’s metered output. On 11 October 2026 we checked the four public sources that might carry it: the ENTSO-E Transparency Platform, SMARD, the yearly EEG data and the transmission companies’ redispatch records. None gives the output of any German battery, one by one or as a fleet. So this page cannot say what the battery exported, imported or earned, as Britain’s battery pages do.
