Vitreous Labs is a small independent project with a simple idea behind it: most of what is worth knowing about Great Britain's batteries is already published, scattered across a dozen official files that almost nobody has the patience to read together. We read them. The connection registers, settlement from the balancing mechanism, the response and reserve auction results, the capacity market register, planning records, Companies House. Out of those files comes what you see here: what is operating, what each battery was actually paid, who owns it and who trades it, and what is waiting to connect.
Absent is never invented
If nobody published a number, you will not find it here. We show the gap, label it, and go hunting for the document.
Measured never mixes with modelled
What a battery was actually paid and what a model thinks it could have earned are different things. They live in separate figures and we never add them.
Every number carries its source
Each figure traces back to a public file. The methods pages show the working, and say what we already know is wrong with it.
Nobody pays us for coverage
No company has any say in how it appears on this site. If a company we cover buys a data subscription one day, it will buy the same product at the same price as everyone else, and it will get no say in any number, no early look at any finding, and no way to make one disappear. If that ever changes, we will say so on this page before it does.
Who is behind it
We are small, and for now unnamed; our names will appear on this page once the product is out of its building phase. We know that asks for a little patience. In the meantime, judge us the way we would want to be judged anyway: open the methods pages, pick any number on the site, and follow it back to its source.
We are building Vitreous Labs into a proper business, and we are talking to a small number of investors who think this market deserves an evidence layer. If that sounds like you, we would like to hear from you.
What this is not
We are not advisers, and nothing here is investment advice, a valuation or a load flow study. We have no connection to NESO, Elexon or Ofgem, and nobody covered on this site sees anything before you do.

We publish corrections and credit the person who made them, unless you would rather we did not.
