Denmark · where to build, from Energinet’s capacity maps
Energinet’s map shows room to feed power in at all 160 transmission stations and none to draw it out; 183 of 933 local stations have room both ways
A battery takes power from the grid and gives it back, so a site needs room in both directions. Energinet publishes, station by station, how much new production and how much new consumption its grid could take: for its 160 transmission stations about monthly, and for 933 distribution stations quarterly. This page reads both. It scores nothing and models nothing: every figure is Energinet’s, and Energinet says the values are indicative and cannot be added up.

Every transmission station has room for new production, and the median station’s room fell by about two fifths since June 2024
On the grid as it is, Energinet’s map of 1 February 2026 gives the median transmission station 142 MW of room for new production, and 12 stations 500 MW or more. Across the 140 stations present in every publication since June 2024, the median fell from 238 MW to 142 MW. With the reinforcements Energinet has already approved, the figures are larger; both are in the table below.

Energinet, GridCapacityMapTSO (June 2024 to December 2025) and GridCapacityMapTSOProductionandConsumption (from February 2026), the existing-grid figure, 15 publications. The line is the median over the 140 stations in every one, so a station joining or leaving the map does not move it. Yellow diamonds are the named batteries operating or being built. Every move between bands, station by station, is on the change ledger.
The map gives 0 MW for new consumption at every transmission station, and 0 hours a year without room for it, which cannot both be true
Since February 2026 Energinet’s transmission map carries consumption beside production: a figure in megawatts, a share of a 100 MW and a 300 MW load that could be served in each season and time band, and the number of hours in a typical year with no room at all. In the publication of 1 February 2026 every one of those consumption fields is nought at every station. The count of hours with no room is also nought everywhere, which would mean room all year. Energinet paused new connection agreements to its transmission grid on 2 March 2026, and on 27 May said the room left is very limited now and for years to come, so the megawatt figure may be meant; or the fields may not yet be filled. Until Energinet says which is meant, this site shows the figures as Energinet publishes them, and a battery’s two-way room can only be read at the distribution level, below.
183 of 933 distribution stations show room both ways, 158 in West Denmark and 25 in East Denmark
A battery that connects to a grid company’s station, at 10 to 60 kV, is bound by the distribution map, which gives each station’s room for new production and for new consumption once the capacity of Energinet’s own transformer above it is counted. The colour is the smaller of the two, the room a battery could use both ways. The values come in steps of ten or twenty megawatts, as Energinet draws them. Idomlund has the most, 80 MW both ways, and 15 stations have 60 MW.

Energinet, GridCapacityMapDSOProductionandConsumption, publication of 1 January 2026: cap_prod_MW_with_tso and cap_cons_MW_with_tso, the room with Energinet’s transformer capacity as a limit in shared stations. A battery’s zone is taken from the transmission station each distribution station hangs from: 150 kV in the west, 132 kV in the east.
Connecting on limited grid access widens the room: Energinet gives a range for curtailable consumption at 923 distribution stations
A Danish grid company can connect a new consumer with limited grid access, on terms that let it be cut back when the grid is tight, and Energinet’s distribution map gives, for each station, the range of consumption that could connect that way: the median station’s upper figure is 20 MW, against 0 MW with full access. A battery can be told not to charge, so these terms can suit one; whether they are offered at a station is the grid company’s decision. The range is in the last column of the table.
The 30 distribution stations with the most room both ways
Energinet will decide the next large connections in pools, the first in the autumn of 2026, by how ready and how grid-friendly each project is
On 2 March 2026 Energinet stopped signing new connection agreements to its transmission grid. Its release of 27 May said applications for new consumption, among them data centres, batteries and power-to-X plants, add up to about eight times Denmark’s present peak demand, and that the queue will not simply restart: projects will be judged together in pools, on their maturity, progress and grid-friendliness, with the first pool expected to be decided in the autumn and no new agreements for larger transmission customers before then. Grid companies go on connecting small and medium customers; a larger customer on a distribution grid must first ask Energinet whether the transmission grid above it has room. For very large connections Energinet puts the wait at five to ten years in several cases. It has not said how batteries will be ranked.
Where a battery will be granted a connection: Energinet publishes no queue project by project, only regional totals, and the capacity map is indicative. What a connection costs, or how long it takes. Whether the 0 MW for consumption is meant. How the room changes once the batteries already permitted connect: the map is recalculated by Energinet, not by this site. Nothing here is a recommendation; it is Energinet’s map, read and set beside the named batteries.
